The Madinah Development Authority (MDA), in collaboration with the Madinah Municipality (Amanah), invites design professionals, studios, and multidisciplinary teams from around the world to participate in the Madinah Architecture Design Festival Competition, an international ideas competition of the highest ambition.
The competition challenges designers to reimagine the Jabal Umm Nuthaylah site, a dramatic volcanic landscape 14 km south of Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi, as a destination of cultural, ecological, and experiential significance.
This is an ideas competition with build potential. MDA retains the option to commission the winning team, in whole or in part, to further develop and implement elements of the winning proposal.

تُعدّ هذه مسابقة أفكار ذات إمكانية تنفيذية. وتحتفظ الهيئة بخيار تكليف الفريق الفائز، كليًا أو جزئيًا، بتطوير وتنفيذ عناصر من المقترح الفائز.
Located approximately 14 km south of Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi, Jabal Umm Nuthaylah occupies a striking volcanic landscape, part of the harrat terrain that defines Madinah's distinctive natural identity.
The site offers dramatic elevated viewpoints, natural rock formations of volcanic basalt, and a raw landscape character that is unique within the Arabian Peninsula.
يقع جبل أم نثيلة على بُعد نحو 14 كيلومترًا جنوب المسجد النبوي الشريف، ويحتل مشهدًا بركانيًا خلابًا، جزءٌ من تضاريس الحرة التي تُعرّف هوية المدينة المنورة الطبيعية المميزة.
يوفر الموقع نقاط مشاهدة مرتفعة درامية، وتكوينات صخرية طبيعية من الحجر البازلتي البركاني، وطابع طبيعي خام لا نظير له في شبه الجزيرة العربية.

Design professionals, studios, and multidisciplinary teams submit their portfolios, CVs, methodology statements, and motivation letters via the competition portal.
يُعلَن عن المسابقة على مستوى عالمي. يقدم المصممون والاستوديوهات والفرق متعددة التخصصات ملفاتهم الإبداعية وسيرهم الذاتية وبياناتهم المنهجية.Virtual interviews and credential verification are conducted. The top 10 applicants are selected and invited to sign the Design Agreement, entering the paid stage of the competition.
تُجرى مقابلات افتراضية والتحقق من الاعتمادات. يتم اختيار أفضل 10 متقدمين ودعوتهم لتوقيع اتفاقية التصميم.All 10 selected teams develop three alternative masterplanning strategies for the site. Upon submission of the full Pre-Concept Design deliverables, each team receives a participation fee of USD 15,000. The jury then shortlists the top 5 teams to advance.
تطور جميع الفرق العشرة المختارة ثلاثة استراتيجيات بديلة لتخطيط الموقع. يتلقى كل فريق رسومًا بقيمة 15,000 دولار أمريكي عند التسليم.The 5 shortlisted finalist teams further develop their selected proposal into a full Concept Masterplan. This includes refined masterplans, floor plans, 3D massing, visualisations, and sustainability strategies.
تطور الفرق الخمس المتأهلة مقترحها المختار إلى خطة مفاهيمية كاملة تشمل المخططات الرئيسية والمخططات المعمارية والنماذج ثلاثية الأبعاد.Finalists exhibit their proposals to the public and a distinguished judging committee at the Madinah Architecture Design Festival. Winners are announced and prizes are awarded at the ceremony.
يعرض المتأهلون مقترحاتهم أمام الجمهور ولجنة تحكيم متميزة في مهرجان المدينة المنورة للعمارة و التصميم. يُعلن عن الفائزين وتُمنح الجوائز. 10 December 2026In addition to prize awards, each of the 10 shortlisted teams receives a USD 15,000 participation fee upon submission of their Pre-Concept Design deliverables. The total competition commitment is USD 395,000.
